Towering Domes in Australia's Outback Hide Early Life-Forms on Earth

Image
The Bungle Bungle range consists of striking sandstone pillars featuring prominent orange and dark-gray bands located in Western Australia. Even though indigenous communities had been living in this region for countless generations, these towering formations remained unknown to the broader global community until the 1980s. It was then that filmmakers captured images of them during the production of a documentary film. The prominent attraction within Purnululu National Park is the Bungle Bungles, which covers an expanse of nearly 600,000 acres (240,000 hectares) in Australia’s Kimberley region. Recognized for having regions of “exceptional natural splendor” along with remarkable geologic significance, Purnululu National Park received UNESCO designation. UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. The 7 Wonders of New Jersey: From Natural Marvels to a Majestic Refinery

Image
The Seven Marvels of the Early World encompassed a temple, lighthouse, statue, mausoleum, and gardens. The Seven Wonders of New Jersey are far more impressive; they feature a temple even grander than the Temple of Artemis, and we have so many lighthouses that we couldn't settle for just one. The same goes for our gardens and statues. Our seven wonders form quite a varied list: the state’s most awe-inspiring (or hair-raising) bridge; a refinery you can tour by car; and the peak representing the state’s tallest spot. Several deserving entries did not make the cut: the George Washington Bridge, Eagle Rock Reservation, Island Beach State Park, Lucy the Elephant, Delaware Water Gap, The Great Swamp, Mount Mitchill, Palisades Interstate Park, and the Trenton Makes the World Takes sign (Alright, I admit my local bias is showing here). Explore the Untamed Beauty of Ireland's Dingle Peninsula on Foot

Image
I can't figure out how we'll make it to dinner. I told my spouse, Taylor, as we carefully made our way up a rugged slope, facing away from the North Atlantic. We had covered 13 miles of what would be a 43-mile, three-day journey across the Dingle Peninsula, which juts out as Ireland’s farthest west point. That morning, we departed from the melodious coastal town of Dingle and embarked on a hike towards Dunquin, a minuscule village overlooking the Blasket Islands archipelago. Shortly after having lunch, we strayed from the trail to investigate the remains of a 7th-century monastery and found ourselves somewhat disoriented as we tried to find our way back. We found ourselves delayed as we reached the top of the peninsula’s slope. From our vantage point over the hilltop, we could barely make out Mount Brandon, a sacred destination standing at 3,000 feet tall, which used to mark the boundary of the explored territories. Bene...
