Federal immigration authorities have taken into custody a PhD student from the University of Alabama who holds Iranian citizenship, as confirmed by the institution and ICE documents. Alireza Doroudi, an Iranian PhD candidate in mechanical engineering, is presently detained at an unknown location as per ICE records. It wasn't immediately obvious why he was detained.
