Image
Megan Moroney receives the Rulebreaker Award at Women In Music 2025 from GudangMovies21. Megan Moroney: Thanks to GudangMovies21 for making this possible. It’s truly incredible, and I’m incredibly thankful to be part of it all. Receiving the Rulebreaker Award made me laugh at first since I usually follow rules very closely. The only time I broke one was as a kid stealing a piece of gum from a baseball game; even now, years later, I can’t help but reflect on that moment. Yet, ironically enough, they’re giving me this award. Still, I am deeply appreciative. Being surrounded by such gifted, self-assured, outstanding female musicians fills me with gratitude. None of this would’ve been achievable without my team—my managers, Juli Griffith and Hayley Corbett, along with my agent, Elisa Vazzana, and her colleagues at UTA including Stephanie Self. My crew rocks! There are countless others too numerous to list who make up our winning group. Lastly, big thanks to my rec...

Mike Campbell's Turbulent Journey with Tom Petty: Love and Respect Endured

Image
In his latest memoir titled "Heartbreaker," Mike Campbell recounts an incident from the early '70s when Tom Petty—his bandmate in Gainesville, Florida-based cover group Mudcrutch—played one of his compositions. While Petty was playing the chords for what would become the hit single "Don’t Do Me Like That" on FM radio, Campbell remarked to him, "If only I had the talent to pen something as great as this; I'd gladly sacrifice my right arm." At the time, Campbell was an exceptionally talented guitarist brought up by his mother alone, striving fervently to escape poverty through professional music. Meeting Petty coincided with him taking menial low-paying jobs and contemplating enlistment in the armed forces. "If someone offered me money to perform, then playing guitars was exactly what I intended to pursue....

"I never met my father," Eminem has shared before. "I have yet to see a photograph of him." This void significantly shaped both Eminem’s artistic expression and personal journey. In stark contrast, singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg had the complete opposite experience; he not only knew his father but also felt deeply loved and inspired by the positive role model his dad provided. For those well-off individuals who have recently marked Father’s Day—and having a supportive father truly is a blessing—not many songs stir as much sentiment as John Fogelberg's heartfelt dedication to his dad, "Leader of the Band." This could very well stand as the finest composition ever penned regarding a son's affection towards the person who brought him up. “If I had the chance to write just one song in my lifetime, it would have been ‘Leader of the Band,’ due to its significance for both my father and myself,” Fogelberg reportedly said to a journalist. “It’s i...
