Edmunds: Top 5 New Vehicles for 2025 That Will Leave You Speechless
Eager to purchase a new vehicle? You may wish to hold off as several exciting models are set to hit dealerships nearby very soon. These include a stylish performance sedan inspired by classic designs but equipped with a conventional fuel-powered engine, along with an all-terrain SUV driven purely by electric power. Additionally, there’s a hybrid pickup truck offering both gasoline and electric capabilities, potentially revolutionizing the market. The editorial team at Edmunds has picked their top choices among these upcoming releases for discerning buyers like yourself.
2026 Dodge Charger Six-Pack Sedan
Maybe you’ve seen the Charger Daytona R/T, Dodge’s new electric performance coupe that draws design inspiration from the classic 1969 Charger. But what if you don’t want an EV? And what if you need four doors? Good news is on the horizon, and it takes the form of the 2026 Charger Sixpack four-door sedan equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder gas engine.
Referred to as the "Hurricane," this engine produces 420 horsepower in its standard output configuration, surpassing the 5.7-liter V8 found in the previous model of the Charger. It’s anticipated that Dodge will subsequently release a high-output version generating an impressive 550 horsepower.
2026 Honda Prelude
The Honda Prelude exemplified Honda's design and engineering prowess during the 1980s and 1990s. However, following the conclusion of the 2001 model year, it vanished from the company’s range of vehicles. After a span of twenty-five years, it is now making a return.
The completely redesigned 2026 Honda Prelude will adopt a hybrid configuration. It’s likely that Honda will equip this model with the same hybrid system found in the hybrid variants of the CR-V and Civic. The automaker has not disclosed details regarding the horsepower output or estimated fuel efficiency for this vehicle. Nonetheless, the Prelude will include an Honda S+ Shift mode which the brand claims will enhance its driving experience beyond that of conventional hybrids.
2026 Jeep Recon
Except for a few cases, most electric sport utility vehicles perform better on paved roads rather than rough terrains. However, Jeep aims to alter this scenario with their forthcoming 2026 Recon model. This strikingly angular electric vehicle boasts impressive off-road capabilities as rated by trails and offers an open-air driving sensation akin to that of a Wrangler.
Recently, Jeep showcased the Recon in an advertisement featuring Harrison Ford. Nevertheless, the company hasn't released many specifics about this model yet. It remains unclear what kind of driving range the Recon offers or its price point. However, it’s confirmed that it will include features such as all-terrain tires, skid plates, a power-operated roof, along with detachable windows and doors. Additionally, built-in trail guide maps within the vehicle's entertainment system and electronically controlled axles ensure that the Jeep Recon is well-equipped for adventurous off-road excursions.
2025 Ram Ramcharger
With one of the most fitting model names ever conceived, the Ram Ramcharger is a large-sized pickup truck powered by electric motors along with a battery pack. This setup mirrors that of the Ford F-150 Lightning. What sets it apart is an additional gas-powered V6 engine designed to address concerns about limited driving range.
The extended-range powertrain from Ram might seem intricate at first glance, yet there is a straightforward way to understand its functionality. Once the battery depletes, the petrol engine functions as a supplementary generator, enabling the Ramcharger to cover approximately 690 miles prior to needing either electric recharge or refueling with gasoline. Essentially, this means you could operate the Ramcharger without ever having to stop at an EV charging station, or conversely, bypass conventional gas stations entirely.
Furthermore, there are no drawbacks regarding performance. Ram states that the Ramcharger has the ability to haul up to 14,000 pounds and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.
2026 Rivian R2
Presently, Rivian’s pickup trucks and SUVs come at a premium cost; however, the forthcoming R2 SUV aims to make things more affordable with an anticipated base price of $45,000. Although smaller compared to the current R1S model, this new addition maintains the brand's signature robust aesthetic combined with advanced features. The Rivian R2 accommodates up to five passengers and boasts over 300 miles of range per charge. Additionally, it offers standard four-wheel-drive capability along with impressive 9.8 inches of maximum ground clearance for enhanced performance on rough terrain.
The Rivian R2, featuring rear vent windows and a back window that lowers into the tailgate, aims to rival the Jeep Recon. Keep in mind that unlike the Recon, where the doors can be removed, this won't be possible with the R2. The release date is set for sometime during the first six months of 2026.
Edmunds says
We adore these five forthcoming models due to their nostalgic charm, technical advancements, or potential for enjoyment regardless of your destination or activity. The Jeep Recon stands out as it embodies all three of these qualities.
