Band Abruptly Halts "Journey" Mid-Song Due to Electrical Fire, Cancels Houston Concert

Audience members at NRG Stadium kept singing the song even as the rockers' sound faded out, however, the group did not come back onto the stage.

Journey had to halt their performance of "Don't Stop Believin'."

The rock group suddenly concluded their performance at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo held at the NRG Stadium on Friday evening when an electrical blaze led to their sound system shutting down during one of their iconic tunes.

Video In case you missed it, when guitarist Neal Schon shared footage from one of their performances, viewers saw vocalist Arnel Pineda delivering some of the track’s iconic lines: “A singer in a smoky room / The scent of wine and cheap perfume / A grin for sharing the night.” However, shortly after, both the audio equipment and large screens stopped working, causing the crowd to carry on singing without accompaniment, repeating “It goes on and on and on and on.”

"Yesterday evening at the Houston TX Rodeo, we experienced an incredible turnout with nearly 79-80 thousand fans filling the venue to watch our performance!" Schon wrote on Instagram The sole downside was that following an impressive beginning, the Rodeo experienced an electrical malfunction which led to a fire breaking out beneath the stage.

He went on, saying, "Thanks, Houston, for performing 'Don’t Stop Believin’' as we got forced off the stage due to an electrical fire and couldn’t come back. It was tough for us and our supporters, and although I wanted to perform again tonight to compensate everyone, it didn’t work out. Here’s hoping for better luck next time...—With Love and Respect."

The official Houston Rodeo social media profiles additionally reported An "electricity-related issue beneath the stage" led to the performance's end. The announcement stated, "Regrettably, we must cancel today’s Journey concert," according to the Rodeo’s message. "We deeply apologize to every attendee for this inconvenience. Our crew is currently addressing the matter with urgency, and we will offer information about new dates and refund processes promptly."

Entertainment Weekly reached out to representatives of Journey and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for additional comments.

Local NBC affiliate KPRC reported During "Don't Stop Believin'", some members of Journey exited the stage midway through their performance and did not come back. Meanwhile, authorities examined the region near the drums while carrying fire extinguishers.

The Rodeo has affirmed that its planned events will proceed as scheduled on Saturday. "We will provide additional details shortly for those who were at the Journey concert," stated the organization. shared on social media.
