Colorado Nonprofits Rally After GraceFull Café Shutters in Littleton
A popular cafe in Colorado that offered pay-as-you-wish meals to those in need has shut down, however, local nonprofit organizations are joining forces to keep serving food to the community.
For over eight years, GraceFull Community Café helped residents dealing with food insecurity, such as Samantha Pennington, who stated that the cafe's influence was beyond measure.
She mentioned that Graceful has likely assisted far more than we can imagine.
The café's proprietors declared on the internet that they had to shut down permanently in February due to monetary issues.
In the past couple of years, we've faced growing difficulties," they penned. "Regrettably, these challenges have made it unsustainable for us to continue this work in good health.
Even with the shutdown, nonprofit organizations like Café 180 in Englewood continue to offer meals.
"I truly appreciate their approach; they contacted us to provide 70 daily meals for a month to address a known shortfall," explained Sarah Lesyinski from Café 180.
Café 180, which operates as a nonprofit eatery providing numerous complimentary meals each week, has recently assembled many dishes and delivered them to the Life Center Littleton location—approximately a 25-minute stroll away from GraceFull.
"We felt incredibly lucky to have the Littleton Life Center and Café 180 support us throughout this transition, ensuring that our guests could continue to receive meals," said Briana McCrumb from the GraceFull Foundation.
The GraceFull Foundation, which collaborated with the café to supply volunteers and financial support, stays dedicated to its purpose.
McCrumb stated that the foundation aims to foster a stronger, healthier, and more interconnected community within Littleton.
Before wrapping up operations, GraceFull Café offered over 141,000 complimentary meals. Currently, the foundation is looking into methods to keep aiding those who require assistance.
The demand remains quite high," McCrumb stated. "Being a foundation, we aim to grasp, 'where do we fit into the community now that we no longer have a café? '
