Fireflies Illuminate North Charleston: Firefly Distillery Marks 20 Years with Anniversary Celebration

The Firefly Distillery, known for pioneering Sweet Tea Vodka, is gearing up to mark its 20th year next month. This significant occasion on April 19 will commemorate the distillery’s origins tied to sweet tea through various activities including live performances, mixology contests, and discounted beverages from midday until early evening.

Scott Newitt, who co-founded Firefly Distillery, looked back on their journey.

I don’t believe either Jim or I fully grasped where the concept of Sweet Tea Vodka might lead when we first started out. However, two decades down the line, it’s truly remarkable to revisit those early days and realize just how much ground we’ve covered and what an empire we have established together. It all commenced as one simple offering yet blossomed into a quintessential Southern icon—a place both residents and tourists frequent—and grew into a clan that keeps getting bigger,” Newitt stated. “On this milestone 20-year mark, we feel thrilled not only to reminisce about our path but also to rejoice alongside the audience who stood by us throughout these years.”

Established in 2005 by Newitt and Jim Irvin, Firefly Distillery launched the globe’s premier Sweet Tea Vodka in 2008. Throughout the years, the distillery has rolled out 39 innovative items, grown its premises, and held various gatherings such as 31 FIREFLY LIVE concerts.

Following the introduction of Tom & Huck Distillers, Firefly has expanded into the world of brown spirits, presenting an array of bourbons along with various flavored whiskies.

The anniversary bash will include performances by Derek Cribb, food truck offerings, a barrel ring toss game, and a Sweet Tea Cocktail Challenge. Guests can take advantage of 20% off tasting sessions and buy $20 bottles of Sweet Tea Vodka for just this special day.

The Firefly Distillery, situated at 4201 Spruill Avenue, invites visitors from Tuesday to Saturday, featuring longer hours on Fridays.
