First Glimpse of 'Chief of War': Jason Momoa’s Epic Hawaiian Warfare Saga

Apple TV+ has shared a preliminary glimpse of Chief of War , Jason Momoa's forthcoming Hawaiian war epic that he leads and co-developed.

The television show, presenting the unparalleled story of Hawaii’s unification and colonization from an indigenous perspective, is scheduled to debut on the streaming platform on August 1st.

The show boasts a mainly Polynesian ensemble with Momoa at the helm. The rest of the cast includes Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale'o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, and Te Kohe Tuhaka. Chief of War .

According to the press release, the nine-part series set against the stunning scenery of Hawaii’s islands chronicles real-life events. It centers around warrior Ka'iana, played by Momoa, who endeavors to unite the islands prior to Western colonization during the late 1700s.

Developed jointly by Momoa and Thomas Pa'a Sibbett, this series was brought to life through the production efforts of Fifth Season and Chernin Entertainment. Besides starring in the project, Momoa took charge behind the camera too; he helmed the final episode of the season and held an executive producer role alongside Doug Jung, who managed day-to-day operations as the showrunner. Additional executive producers included Sibbet, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Brian Mendoza, Justin Chon—also responsible for directing the initial pair of installments—and Anders Engström, Jim Rowe, Molly Allen, Francis Lawrence, and Tim Van Patten.

The initial pair of episodes Chief of War will debut on Apple TV+ starting August 1, with fresh episodes released each Friday until September 19.
