Gracie Abrams Crowned Songwriter of the Year 2025, Honors Taylor Swift’s Influence at Billboard Women in Music Awards

On Saturday evening, Women In Music made its return at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California. The event honored many prominent figures within the entertainment sphere, such as influential executives and chart-topping musicians from various music styles.

This year, Gracie Abrams received the first-ever Songwriter of the Year award, handed to her by Victoria Monét. “This phenomenal talent is undoubtedly a jack-of-all-trades,” Abrams commented about her presenter, who was recognized at last year’s Women in Music ceremony as the Rising Star. “She excels incredibly as a songwriter, unmatched singer, innovative producer, and superb dancer. You inspire me daily.”

Before receiving the accolade, Abrams showcased her emotional single "I Love, I'm Sorry" from her sophomore album. The Secret of Us Abrams composed the album together with her closest confidante, Audrey Hobert, who was present sitting at a table next to Abrams' mother and her manager (as well as Women in Music award recipient) Alex DePersia.

Abrams dedicated these lines to his best friend and the brightest mind, Audrey Hobert — for countless reasons, I owe who I am today to you,' he stated. 'Our album exists exactly as it does thanks to your influence. Prior to this project, I had never composed a song before,' The Secret of Us , you assisted me in translating each emotion I desperately wanted to express through this album."

Abrams expressed gratitude to songwriter Sarah Aarons and, naturally, "the exceptional Miss Taylor Swift," who was part of the team nominated for a Grammy for their joint work titled "Us" from the corresponding album. Abrams added, "I will always be thankful to her for the blessing of her writing skills," which significantly uplifted them.
