Local Music and Art Festival Returns to One of Mississippi's College Towns
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) — The Red Brick Roads Festival kicks off on March 27th, and preparations have already started as the city hangs umbrellas over the streets. This event promises an exciting fusion of local music and art.
Marlee Price, the City of Clinton’s Director of Communications, stated, "We kick things off on Friday evening with Mustache. This band is quite popular locally, perhaps even regionally; they specialize as a 90s cover group. Onstage from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM after gates open at 6:00 PM, they’ll set the mood for our festival."
The festival planners are thrilled to introduce a fresh addition to the schedule this season.
Anna Nutt, who serves as the Executive Director at the Clinton Chamber Of Commerce, stated, "One addition for this year is a 5K race known as the Red Brick Run. Currently, more than 140 participants have registered to join us for this event on Saturday morning. It’s our hope that this will be an excellent enhancement."
The Clinton festival will offer entertainment for the community as well as support local enterprises such as the Peppy Peddler, where numerous local sellers lease shelf space to showcase their goods.
Laci Pittman, who owns The Peppy Peddler, stated, "Given that we'll host the festival, we anticipate having additional merchandise and an increased number of staff members working as vendors. This gives them the opportunity to highlight and discuss their enterprises with attendees."
A fresh addition to this year’s Brick Street Fest will be an art contest hosted at one of the nearby art stores.
Tara Lytal, who leads Main Street Clinton, mentioned, "Another element we've introduced is an outdoor painting event, with the Wyatt Waters Gallery overseeing it. This involves painters working on canvases outdoors using the distinctive redbrick backdrop. Artists will visit various spots within your town and create their artwork onsite before bringing those pieces back for display. There might be a judging process; however, we're opting instead for a public favorite award where visitors can cast votes for what they consider to be the finest piece."
People living in and running businesses within the city emphasize the significance of community ties, noting that this festival has significantly contributed to the urban development.
"I simply wanted to express how thankful we are for our Old Town and for the strong support among community members here. As someone who lives in Clinton, it has been truly amazing to witness the revitalization of the Brick Street area and to see new businesses relocating downtown, benefiting all of us," stated Pittman.
The regional arts and music celebration will commence on March 27th and continue till the 29th. According to the city officials of Clinton, several roads including Jefferson and Leake Streets will remain off-limits to vehicles until the conclusion of the event.
The organizers remain hopeful regarding this weekend’s weather outlook, however, it might be wise to bring along an umbrella when heading out on Saturday.
