Samuel L. Jackson Shares Bruce Willis's Game-Changing Advice From 'Die Hard with a Vengeance'
Samuel L. Jackson remembered some valuable guidance he got from Bruce Willis during the filming. Naked Gun 33⅓ in 1994.
Jackson mentioned, "He said, 'Fingers crossed that you'll discover a role where, even if you end up making poor films that fail at the box office, you can always return to this beloved character everyone adores.'" interview with Vanity Fair marking Willis' 70th birthday. He mentioned, 'Arnold has Terminator. Sylveste r 's got Rocky, Rambo. I have John McClane. I thought, 'Okay, fine.' It wasn’t until I landed the Nick Fury role—and signed for nine movies as Nick Fury—that it hit me: Oh, I’m doing what Bruce suggested. Now I’ve got this character to play.
Jackson proceeded to star in a dozen Marvel films as Nick Fury, starting with 2008’s Iron Man He went to portray Fury in Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron & Infinity War , Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home and most recently, 2023’s The Marvels. The movies earned approximately $12.8 billion at the box office.
Jackson also shared with the Los Angeles Times during a 2022 discussion He had no interest in being awarded for his efforts.
He stated, 'I would never allow the Oscars to define my achievements or losses as an actor. For me, true success is rooted in my contentment.'
"Do I feel content with what I’m currently involved in? I am not pursuing accolade-seeking projects,” he went on. “‘Make this film, and you’ll get an Academy Award.’ Not interested. Instead, I’d prefer to play Nick Fury. Or enjoy portraying Mace Windu wielding a lightsaber.”
