Walmart Expands Nationwide: Adding Gas Stations in 34 States

As many grocery stores proceed with focusing on e-commerce, pickup services, and deliveries. Walmart is sticking with the conventional brick-and-mortar approach by expanding its network across the country through the addition of numerous Fuel and Convenience stores to its extensive collection of physical sites.
Recently, the retail giant disclosed its strategy to broaden its chain of Fuel and Convenience stores throughout the U.S., with intentions to launch 45 fresh or refurbished outlets in 2025. This growth initiative forms part of Walmart’s ongoing commitment to invest in brick-and-mortar shops, maintain affordable pricing, and provide an all-inclusive shopping destination for consumers.
After the firm expanded nationally during the 1970s, Walmart has established itself as the budget-friendly choice for groceries, household essentials, and impulse buys. In 2002, the supermarket expanded its lineup with the addition of fuel services, which now boasts over 400 Fuel and Convenience outlets nationwide. By year-end, Walmart aims to run more than 450 fuel sites spanning 34 states, thereby bolstering its brick-and-mortar footprint and enhancing its role in the convenience store sector.
In accordance with a press statement, Dave DeSerio, who serves as the Vice President of Fuel and Convenience at Walmart U.S., mentioned, “We remain committed to expanding our presence across the nation through our brick-and-mortar stores. This year, by incorporating numerous new Fuel and Convenience outlets, we aim to deliver additional benefits directly to our shoppers.” He further emphasized, “Shoppers choose Walmart for our consistently affordable pricing and convenient services; these newly introduced gas stations exemplify how we adapt to meet the demands of both our regular patrons and members.”
Unlike typical gas stations and corner shops that often inflate their prices for products compared to supermarkets, Walmart applies its everyday low pricing strategy to both groceries and fuel at its convenience outlets. Customers enrolled in the retailer’s Walmart+ subscription service enjoy additional savings when filling up their tanks, benefiting from an extra dime off each gallon as part of their benefits package. Such efforts underscore Walmart's dedication to maintaining consistent, accessible, and budget-friendly options for all shoppers.
Having established itself as a major supplier at many of the country’s top grocery chains, Walmart boasts more than 4,600 outlets spanning all 50 states. The retail giant is also poised to become a frontrunner in fuel efficiency following the opening of its 400th location in Palm Springs, California, last December. Future openings include sites in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Laredo, Texas, and various other American towns. Given its ambitious growth strategy set for this year, it won’t be long until Walmart emerges as the go-to spot in the Southern region for budget-friendly gasoline, treats, and general merchandise typically found in convenience stores.
