Why the Detroit Tigers Removed Their 'Tigers' Sign from the Scoreboard
DETROIT – The elaborate, script-style Tigers signage in orange and black atop the big outfield scoreboard at Comerica Park has been removed, now giving way to just "Comerica Park."
The Tigers team has clarified the reasoning behind the alteration, stating that the Tigers logo was no longer relevant.
“As mentioned earlier, things were similar when we first started at the ballpark about 25 years back,” stated Ryan Gustafson, President and CEO of Ilitch Sports and Entertainment. “The previous Tigers billboard had run its course and required retirement.”
We actually came across an image of the old scoreboard at the stadium, which featured both a Comerica Park and a Tigers sign.
In either case, this represents the updated appearance, and it comes with the biggest scoreboard in the American League. debuting last season Gustafson mentions that there are numerous items to observe on it.
Given the enhanced features of our newly installed video board and control room technology, we now have many more options for signage. Therefore, we chose to revert the sign to its initial design."
Yet another significant alteration causing buzz among enthusiasts is the elimination of the evocative dirt trail Which linked the home plate to the pitcher's mound.
The so-called keyhole has been a feature at theDetroitTigers' stadium for 25years now. It serves as a tribute to baseball’s rich history, reflecting practices common at ballparks during the late 1800sand early 1900s inAmerica.
Gustafson states that Comerica Park was the final Major League Baseball venue to feature a keyhole, which the organization took out upon player requests.
The players requested this. We strive to do all we can each season to hear out our players and make changes ensuring it provides the proper atmosphere for them, which was their request.
