Beatles Biopic: Four Films, One Epic Month — Cast Unveiled!
Paul Mescal will portray Sir Paul McCartney in a series of upcoming Beatles biopic films helmed by a director. Sir Sam Mendes .
Fellow Irish actor Barry Keoghan will assume the role of Sir Ringo Starr in the four movies, with all of them scheduled for release in April 2028.
At the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas on Monday, where the cast was also present, Sir Sam referred to the movies as "the first binge-worthy theater experience."
The British director commented, "I've been attempting to create a narrative centered around The Beatles for many years now."
The casting also includes Harris Dickinson as John Lennon and Joseph Quinn, Mescal’s co-star from Gladiator II, who will take on the role of George Harrison.
This project represents the first occasion where Apple Corps Ltd and The Beatles—Sir Paul, Sir Ringo, and the families of Lennon and Harrison—have bestowed comprehensive life story and musical rights for a feature-length fictional film.
Sir Ringo earlier seemed to indicate that Saltburn actor Keoghan had been cast in the role.
He told Entertainment Tonight, "I think he's probably off learning how to play drums, and hopefully not too much."
Last year, when Sir Ridley Scott was promoting Gladiator II, he announced that Mescal would be part of the Beatles film, informing an industry gathering that the actor was "lined up to do the Beatles movie" as well.
Earlier movies related to the Beatles encompass "Nowhere Boy," the BBC drama "Lennon Naked," and "Chapter 27." The latter film portrays the musician’s demise, with Jared Leto taking on the role of his assassin, Mark David Chapman.
Established in 1960, The Beatles stand as the highest-grossing music group ever, with 18 top-ranked singles and 16 chart-topping albums in the UK to their credit.
Mescal and Keoghan are both Academy Award nominees, with Mescal receiving recognition for his role in the drama "Aftersun" and Keoghan being honored for his part in the dark comedy "The Banshees of Inisherinn."
Dickinson has appeared in "Triangle of Sadness" and "Where the Crawdads Sing," whereas Quinn gained prominence through "Stranger Things" prior to starring in "A Quiet Place: Day One."
Quinn will portray Johnny Storm, who goes by the superhero alias Human Torch, in both Marvel movies titled The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday.
During the Covid pandemic, Mescal rose to fame for his part in the BBC miniseries "Normal People," which was adapted from the book written by Irish novelist Sally Rooney. In the series, he played the character Connell Waldron, who is the romantic lead.
He was honored with an Olivier Award for his portrayal in "A Streetcar Named Desire."
Last year Sir Paul McCartney astonished Beatles enthusiasts midway through his Get Back tour when he shared the stage with Ringo Starr.
