East Coast's Sizzling Bagel Joint Makes Hot Dip and Rip Debut in L.A.
Another bagel shop from the East Coast is preparing for its first appearance in Los Angeles. Following closely, arrival of the iconic New York bagel store H&H , ripper-and-soaker bagel expert PopUp Bagels is moving westward with several scheduled stops in Los Angeles, along with planned visits to both San Diego and Orange County. The PopUp is renowned for serving hot-from-the-oven bagels accompanied by a side of whipped cream cheese for dipping.
Adam Goldberg launched PopUp Bagels as a personal initiative at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The first independent store opened in New York City in 2021. By April 2023, when they expanded into Greenwich Village, the business rapidly attracted a dedicated fanbase, with queues stretching outside continuously from opening till closing time. Following this expansion, The bagel store has grown to include several outlets. In New York, Connecticut, and Boston.
In contrast to PopUp, Other NYC Bagel Shops For its distinctive "rip-and-dip" method of serving bagels and its decision not to provide bagel sandwiches, customers can choose packs of three, six, or twelve freshly baked hot bagels. These come with options for dipping such as classic cream cheese, butter, green onion-flavored cream cheese, and plant-based cream cheese. Currently, a trio of bagels paired with your choice of topping goes for $13. As part of their westward growth plan, PopUp Bagels has teamed up with James Marzouk from Sweetzer Capital along with entrepreneurs Paul Goodman and Griffin Thall who founded Bagel Boyz. According to statements made by PopUp Bagels, Marzouk aims to establish around 25 outlets throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. Meanwhile, Goodman and Thall have plans to bring ten new stores to San Diego within the coming years.
Once the Popup appears, it will connect locally owned Los Angeles bagel stores such as Maury’s , Belle’s Delicatessen, Courage Bagels, and Hank’s Bagels, alongside transplant stores, including the recently-arrived Boichik Bagels from the San Francisco Bay Area. While Los Angeles Hasn't quite reached its peak rip-and-dip era just yet. There are several stores in the vicinity providing this distinctive bagel style, such as Calic Bagel located in Koreatown and Wake & Late, which specializes in breakfast burritos.
