James Beard Foundation Unveils 2025 Award Nominees: Houston's Top 4 Chefs Make the Cut

The James Beard Foundation, marking 35 years of honoring top restaurants and culinary experts nationwide, has unveiled its 2025 Restaurant and Chef Award Nominated Establishments On Wednesday, two chefs from Houston and their respective eateries made the cut.

The announcements took place during a ceremony in Los Angeles.

"We are delighted to unveil the 2025 Restaurant and Chef Award nominations along with the Achievement Award winners—including our inaugural Impact Award recipients—said Clare Reichenbach, CEO of the James Beard Foundation in a press statement. These outstanding individuals embody our ‘Good Food for Good’ initiative through their dedication to quality, progress within the standalone dining sector, and overall culinary landscape,” she added.

Houston-area nominees

Starting with the Best New Restaurant category, EMA HTX on 5307 Main Street in Houston Secured a spot. In the Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program category, a nomination was received by March at 1624 Westheimer.

In the regional category for Best Chef: Texas, two nominees came from the Houston area. Among them was one chef who received a nomination. Thomas Bille of Belly of the Beast At 5200 FM 2920 in Springbranch g . The other was Emmanuel Chavez of Tatemó which is located at 4740 Dacoma Street in Houston .

  • Up-and-coming cook: RJ Yoakum from Georgie in Dallas, TX
  • Best New Restaurant: Mābo, located in Dallas, Texas
  • Exceptional Bakery: Starship Bagel, Located in Dallas and Lewisville, TX
  • Exceptional Hospitality: Mixtli, San Antonio, TX
  • Top New Bar: Bar Colette, Dallas, TX
  • Exceptional Expert in Beverage Service: Arjav Ezekiel, Birdie's, Austin, TX
  • Top Chef in Texas: Emil Oliva from Leche de Tigre, located in San Antonio, TX
  • Top Chef in Texas - Regino Rojas from Purépecha, located in Dallas, TX
  • Top Chef - Texas: Michael Anthony Serva from Bordo in Marfa, TX

The final contenders will be revealed on June 16, 2025.
