Murray Bartlett, who stars in 'The White Lotus,' has gone back to his home country of Australia to work on 'A Place to Be.' This new project comes from filmmaker Kornél Mundruczó, known for works like 'White God' and 'Pieces of a Woman,' both of which have won awards at prestigious festivals such as Cannes and Venice. Filming is presently underway.
In "A Place to Be," Bartlett portrays Ron, Pamela Anderson's unlucky-in-life brother, as they conspire together to find a new home for their mother, Brooke (played by Ellen Burstyn), and secure their deceased artist father's estate.
"Bartlett mentions we're trying to move our mother into an upscale retirement home," he says. GudangMovies21 He comes across as somewhat aloof... However, there’s more to him than meets the eye. His family situation is quite complex, especially concerning his late father.
The play penned by acclaimed scribe Kata Weber (famed for her work on "Pieces of a Woman" and "White God") delves into an improbable camaraderie forged between pragmatic Brooke and flustered divorcé Nelson—portrayed by Taika Waititi—as these two embark on a journey from Chicago to New York City with the aim of returning a misplaced homing pigeon.
This represents Bartlett's second project alongside Mundraczu and Weber, following their previous work together on "At the Sea," which is presently in post-production.
On the last evening of shooting 'At the Sea,' he said, ‘I’m producing a movie in your homeland, in Australia, and there’s a part perfectly suited for you.’" Bartlett remembers. "We enjoyed collaborating... it’s wonderful when you meet individuals who resonate with you deeply and you mesh exceptionally well professionally.”
Bartlett commends the Hungarian filmmaker for his distinctive style: "This director is incredible because he aims to be astonished... during work sessions, he often guides you towards unexpected paths, making it a wonderful and challenging experience."
The actor also shows appreciation for Wéber's writing: "It’s wonderful when all these elements are already laid out in the screenplay for you. And Kata has penned an absolutely stunning script. They have created a distinct language within both the screenplays and the filmmaking that truly encapsulates certain aspects of the human condition."
Since his Emmy-winning performance as the hotel manager Armond in "The White Lotus," Bartlett's career has thrived. When questioned about how that show altered his life, he admits to the significant change.
"As a result, I started having more options, choices that were unprecedented for me as an actor, and this was truly wonderful," Bartlett states.
The actor is simultaneously involved in Michael Sarnoski's project titled "The Death of Robin Hood," which co-stars Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer. He refers to this film as "a grim reinterpretation of the conclusion of Robin Hood’s life." In it, he portrays "an enigmatic figure residing within the Priory" who shares a connection with Robin Hood.
Bartlett elaborates regarding Sarnoski's technique, saying, "It’s a fairy tale, so he fully embraces this sort of magical realm." He adds, "The filming in Northern Ireland was absolutely incredible."
His latest achievements feature a highly praised individual episode of "The Last of Us" and his part in "Welcome to Chippendales." Both endeavors have garnered him Emmy nomination accolades.
Bartlett comments on the "The Last of Us" episode, saying, “It had an incredibly beautiful script.” He adds, “Upon arriving at the set, everybody was quite moved... We all felt, 'Wow, we have the opportunity to share this narrative.’ It was profoundly touching.”
