NMC Glowlife Lifestyle programme introduces digital health convenience

The MTC Dome wellness manager, Nicka Engelbrecht said at the recent launch of Namibia Medical Care’s Glowlife Lifestyle programme at Swakopmund’s MTC Dome that digital health is an assessable way for patients to gain healthcare.

“Digital health is something new, not only here – not only in other countries but also in Namibia.”

“We are really trying to cultivate a culture of health and wellbeing here in Namibia. Technology is the new way to do it,” she said.

The NMC Glowlife Lifestyle programme is designed to provide mindfulness, encouragement and a community that fosters health and wellness. The programme consists of three elements, which are a wellness culture, the Dome wellness centre and the wellness calendar. It promotes healthy lifestyles and offers routine medical check-ups, with the assistance of a virtual wellness coach on Whatsapp.

“Through the Whatsapp Bot, we educate clients by giving them insight and information. Digital health is slowly but surely being introduced to us in a more accessible way.”

“Knowledge is power and ultimately something that is accessable like a cellphone can give clients what they need,” said Engelbrecht.

The Whatsapp Bot can capture a face scan of the client and through this it gives them insight to their overall health. The scan tells the client’s crucial information which includes blood pressure readings, heart rate, BMI and if there are any risk factors to these.

“The Whatsapp Bot gives information on readings. It also alerts clients to know when it is time to visit a healthcare provider or get some professional help.”

“Clients are able to take ownership of their own health and walk the journey of wellbeing,” she said.

After receiving an email, NMC clients gain access to the NMC Glowlife Lifestyle programme by signing up for their own personalized Whatsapp Bot.

The MTC Dome Chief Executive, Fanus Engelbrecht, said that a wellness culture is crucial for every person’s path in life.

“A wellness culture is not what you do but what you think that determines where you go in life. If you want to change your behaviour, you need to change your thinking,” he said.

He also said that through the programme, the MTC Dome will develop many services to benefit NMC members.

“They can make use of the Dome Wellness Centre. We will also host a lot of events that will be posted on the NMC wellness calendar like fun walks, workshops and seminars to equip them,” said Engelbrecht.

The MTC Dome will also open a wellness centre at the newly constructed cricket stadium in Windhoek, which will be opened in August.
