Philadelphia's Finest: 4 Standout Nominees for the 2025 James Beard Awards

Wednesday will see Philadelphia’s distinguished dining landscape gaining some acclaim. Among those being honored are three of the city’s notable chefs along with a local bar. The 2025 James Beard Award nominees are .

Phila Lorn from Mawn in Bella Vista has received a nomination for the Emerging Chef award. The eatery, known as a noodle house with "no rules," continues to make waves. according to its website Lorn and his spouse, Rachel, possess two decades of expertise in the dining establishments around Philadelphia.

Philadelphia boasts two chefs who have been shortlisted for the title of Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic region, covering areas such as D.C., Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Jesse Ito, of Royal Sushi & Izakaya In Queen Village, and Amanda Shulman from Her Place Supper Club in Center City, were both nominated for the title of Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic.

The Philadelphia Inquirer's food critic Craig LaBan referred to Royal Sushi & Izakaya has been deemed the city's "finest prepared Japanese cuisine."

The menu at Her Place Supper Club Updates occur triweekly, though they can be as frequent as daily, or even “on demand,” based on their website. The menu blends French and Italian cuisines with a hint of Jewish influence. The Sansom Street eatery has a sibling location elsewhere. My Loup , which is also located in Center City nearby.

The Lovers Bar at Friday Saturday Sunday in Center City received a nomination for the Outstanding Bar award.
