2025 NFL Mock Draft: Bears Make Shock Move, Trade Back Into First Round for Top Defensive Star

The 2025 NFL Draft is just ahead, and the Chicago Bears are preparing to introduce a fresh batch of newcomers into their ranks. With seven picks at their disposal, including four within the first 72 slots, Chicago finds itself well-positioned to strengthen its lineup under newly appointed head coach Ben Johnson.

In a recent mock draft from Pro Football Focus , the Bears choose running back Ashton Jeanty as the 10th overall selection to bolster Johnson's offensive arsenal. However, their moves do not end there. According to PFF, Chicago trades back into the first round (with the Los Angeles Rams ) to secure a dominant defensive tackle from Michigan named Kenneth Grant.

When it comes to the trade specifics: The Bears get the Rams’ pick at No. 26 along with No. 127, in return for giving up their choices at No. 39 and No. 72.

Entering 2025, the Bears will rely on Gervon Dexter Sr. and Grady Jarrett as their primary defensive tackles, despite both players posting subpar run-defense grades around the mid-60s last year. Leveraging the versatility provided by possessing an additional second-round selection, the team trades up to secure Kenneth Grant in the first round. With his imposing 340-pound build coupled with unexpected agility, Grant promises to significantly bolster Chicago’s performance during earlier down situations.

In 2024, Grant recorded 32 tackles, with seven of those being for losses, along with three sacks, five pass deflections, and two fumble recoveries across 12 games played with the Wolverines.

This off-season, the Bears added a few players to their defensive line, including defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo. However, securing Grant—who could step into the role vacated by Andrew Billings—would significantly bolster Dennis Allen’s defensive strategy.

The article was initially published on Bears Wire. In a 2025 NFL mock draft scenario, the Bears move up from outside the first round to select a standout defender.
