The GMC Sierra EV, introduced for the 2024 model year, has thus far been exclusively available in the opulent Denali trim. The Denali model offers flexibility as it can accommodate all three types of batteries. However, GMC has not provided exact capacity details in terms of kilowatt-hours yet, nor have they disclosed estimated ranges for these models ahead of their 2026 release date.
Various batteries impact the towing capacity of the vehicle. The Extended Range model offers superior performance, capable of pulling up to 12,500 pounds with both the Elevation and Denali versions, and 12,300 pounds when equipped as an AT4 variant. In contrast, using the Standard Range battery allows the Sierra EV to tow up to 8,500 pounds, whereas the Max Range configuration supports a maximum trailer weight of 10,200 pounds.
The horsepower and torque vary based on the type of battery used. The top performer here is the Denali Max Range model boasting an impressive 760 horses, whereas the AT4 Max Range has been limited to 725 horsepower. Moving down the lineup, the AT4 Extended Range generates 625 horsepower; meanwhile, the Elevation and Denali Extended Range versions produce 645 hp each. In terms of torque, both variations of the Denali deliver 785 pound-feet, followed closely by the two AT4 models which provide 775 pound-feet. Lastly, the Elevation Extended Range offers 765 pound-feet of torque. It’s worth noting that specific numbers have not yet been disclosed for vehicles equipped with the Standard Range batteries.
Finally, every battery has its own distinct charging method. The Max Range and Extended Range models utilize an 800-volt system; the Max Range can charge as fast as 350 kW, whereas the Extended Range tops off at 300 kW. In contrast, the Standard Range model operates on a 400-volt platform and maxes out at 220 kW for charging speed.
Adventurous AT4
When the GMC Sierra EV was unveiled in 2022, the company initially teased the introduction of a tough AT4 variant. Now, it has arrived with distinct features such as prominent red tow hooks, an illuminated red GMC emblem on the grill, and an additional two inches of ground clearance. This increased height includes one inch provided by 35-inch all-terrain tires and another inch contributed by the elevated coil-spring suspension system. Additionally, the AT4 version benefits from having a front skid plate installed.
The vehicle features a special Terrain Mode, which works alongside the single-pedal drive function and automatic emergency braking. Additionally, the AT4 comes equipped with standard rear-wheel steering, allowing for GMC’s distinctive CrabWalk diagonal movement capability. It includes Super Cruise, GM’s driver-assist technology permitting hands-free operation, as well as a heads-up display. The Deluxe option, exclusive to vehicles equipped with the Extended Range battery, includes features such as the innovative MultiPro Midgate, a protective sprayed liner for the cargo area, climate-controlled front seats, and a premium Bose audio setup. Additionally, customers have the choice to add the Energy Transfer technology, Super Cruise capability, and 22-inch alloy rims; however, options like Super Cruise and large wheels necessitate selecting the Deluxe bundle initially.
The Denali remains at the pinnacle of the range for 2026 but introduces greater variety. It now includes as standard features such as 22-inch wheels, LED lighting surrounding the grille trim, and Super Cruise technology. Adding the Premium package brings an extended-range battery, MultiPro Midgate function, panoramic glass roof, along with a 7.2-kilowatt energy transfer system. Meanwhile, selecting the Reserve package enhances this further through the inclusion of all-wheel steering capabilities, larger 24-inch wheels, adjustable air suspension, and a higher-capacity 10.2-kilowatt power transfer unit. Additionally, the Denali will be available in four fresh exterior hues come 2026: Glacier White Tri-Coat Metallic, Coastal Dune, Deep Bronze Metallic, and Magnus Matte finish.
This summer, the 2026 Sierra EV is set to make its debut on the roads. The Elevation trim significantly lowers the entry cost to $64,495 when equipped with the Standard Range battery; upgrading to the Extended Range option costs an additional $8,200. Meanwhile, the top-tier Denali Max Range version, which includes the Reserve package as standard, carries an MSRP of $100,695.
