Billy Horschel Collapses in Triumph: Blacked Out After Winning TGL Championship With a Stunning Putt
The Atlanta Drive GC emerged victorious at the first-ever TGL SoFi Cup on Tuesday evening. They defeated the New York Golf Club with a score of 4-3 during the second game of a best-of-three final series broadcasted on ESPN. Trailing initially by 3-0 through ten holes, they made an impressive comeback thanks to strong hammer gameplay and a remarkable shot from Billy Horschel.
On the 14th hole, when New York was holding onto a narrow 3-2 advantage against Rickie Fowler, Horschel made an impressive putt from over 17 feet above the green. Overcome with raw emotion, he tossed his cap and club aside before letting out a loud cry to the spectators.
Following the hole, Horschel addressed the crowd. ESPN's Marty Smith and described what went through his mind during and after the putt.
“I felt just right, and I could tell it looked great. About two feet from the hole, I realized it was going in. Then everything went dark,” Horschel shared with Smith. “I probably used some expletives; maybe even mentioned that this place feels like home now. It’s been such a blast. Loving every moment with this guy. Absolutely amazing! We have a one-point advantage with only one more hole left. So much excitement.”
It truly was. TGL couldn't have hoped for a more perfect time to conclude its inaugural season.
