John Daly Jr. Claims First Collegiate Win at Columbia Spring Invitational

Young John achieves his initial collegiate win.

John Daly II, whose father won two majors, secured his maiden college win on Monday during the Columbia Spring Invitational. He completed his last five holes six under par, ending up at one under 139 overall. This put him level with two others but he claimed medalist honors through a scorecard playoff held at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania. The 21-year-old junior from the University of Arkansas now boasts his very own trophy for the first time.

Daly maintained an even par during his initial 18-hole session on Monday morning. However, by the time he reached the final five holes of his subsequent afternoon round, he had dropped to 5 over. His scores were 2, 3, 3, 3, and 3, bringing him to 1 under overall for both the round and the tournament – putting him level with Yale’s Matthew Lin and Dartmouth’s Tyler Brand. Yet, when they entered a scorecard playoff, Daly emerged victorious as Daly II.

Yale claimed the team championship, ending at 7 over par and ahead of Arkansas by four strokes.

In this season, Daly II achieved a tie for fourth place at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate and maintained an average score of 71.2 strokes prior to his most recent competition. During his last appearance, he finished in a tie for 37th position at the Valspar Collegiate.

In 2021, the Dalys joined forces to claim victory at the PNC Championship, outscoring Tiger and Charlie Woods by two strokes.
