Ukraine Unleashes New Long-Range Neptune Missile on Russian Targets

The Long Neptune represents an extended variant of Ukraine’s Neptune anti-ship cruise missile, with a new length of 5 meters.

Neptune missile program evolves

The initial Neptune missile, created by Ukraine’s Luch Design Bureau, garnered worldwide attention in 2022 after it struck and sank Russia’s Black Sea Fleet command ship, the Moskva.

Axe made reference to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who announced on March 15 that he had received updates about Ukraine’s missile program, noting significant progress.

"The new Ukrainian missile delivered a precise strike. Range—1,000 km," Zelenskyy said.

Axe indicates that the initial effective use of the Long Neptune might have occurred on March 14, during an assault on an oil refinery in Tuapse, Russia, which is approximately 480 kilometers behind enemy lines.

Strategic significance of Long Neptune

Axe highlighted that the Long Neptune serves as a crucial asset for Ukraine, diminishing its reliance on military support from the U.S. and Europe.

He observed that during President Donald Trump's tenure, the U.S. has turned into a questionable ally at most, whereas Europe does not have sufficient manufacturing capability to provide Ukraine with an adequate number of advanced cruise missiles.

Even though Trump urged Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire beneficial to Russia, Zelenskyy’s team is gearing up for an extended conflict and planning attacks far inside Russian territory, Axe determined.
