The school board has collectively decided to allocate over $80 million for their capital enhancement initiative. According to the board members, they achieved this funding boost without raising taxes.
Carlin stated that he doesn’t think there has been a decrease in construction expenses since the economic downturn of 2008 and 2009, implying that these costs have kept rising.
The modifications encompass a suggested bus station at the present location of Bryson Middle School. Additionally, they involve possible expansions for both the new Bryson Middle School and the forthcoming Northwest Middle School.
"Unless you provide such accommodations, further ahead, you might face the necessity of constructing entirely new schools. It’s far more beneficial for both the local community and taxpayers if we expand current school facilities rather than building new ones," Carlin stated.
Authorities stated that a new bus station costing over $16 million located in the south part of the county might cut down travel time for the buses and their drivers.
Carlin stated that this would encompass the team operating the bus station as well as provide room for the drivers. He added that they could carry out training activities and similar tasks at that site.
Leaders mentioned their intention to include additional students as they transform Fountain Inn Elementary School into a K-8 institution.
"Anticipating the significant student growth ahead, we plan to expand the school capacity to accommodate 1,800 students, which adds 800 more spots rather than the initially planned 500," explained Carlin.
Authorities stated that the new Northwest Middle School is set to open in 2027.
Carlin stated that both the Fountain Inn K-8 and the new Bryson Middle School will be opening in 2028.
He mentioned that the construction of the new bus station is set to be completed by 2030.
