Child electrocuted at Shahdara hospital day after Secretary's surprise inspection
A child was electrocuted inside Shahdara Teaching Hospital on Friday, police and rescue workers said. Reportedly, the child along with his father visited the hospital for the treatment of his mother. The incident took place one day after the health secretary and the minister paid 'surprise visits' to the same hospital.
The boy was passing through the ground of the hospital when he suddenly touched naked electric wires. The boy received severe electric shock and died instantly. According to the victim's family, the incident took place in the hospital's grounds. The parents alleged that the doctors at the emergency unit did not provide immediate attention, while the child died. Some local residents and family members of the deceased staged a protest demonstration on GT Road by placing the child's body on the road. The police reported that the family had filed a formal complaint at Shahdara Police Station for registration of a case. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif sought an immediate report from the Health Secretary while expressing her deep sense of grief and sorrow over the death of a minor child in Shahdara Teaching Hospital due to electrocution.
She directed the authorities concerned to take strict legal action against the negligent after determining the responsibility.
